Mk IX Spitfires of 126 Squadron, led by Wing Commander Pete Brothers flying his Mk VII Spitfire in high altitude paint scheme, race back to base at RAF Culmhead after a low-level attack on enemy transport in Normandy.The Culmhead Spitfire Wing flew constant armed "Rhubarb" attacks in support of the invasion from D-Day- 6 June 1944 - until the first improvised strips were established in France a few weeks following the invasion.

High over the south coast of England, the defiant Spitfire pilots of Douglas Bader's Tangmere Wing fly a southerly course towards the Pas de Calais to engage Adolf Galland's 'Abbeville Boys' shortly after their indomitable leader had been shot down and taken prisoner, August 1941.
